“Hey Rob, getting a little long-winded with the pre-battle dialog, huh?”

“Yeah…”

Bullbeast demonstrates here to December Sun his mastery not just of brute strength, but of subduing someone easily using pressure points.  He’s the leader and instructor of these two kids: one was just accidentally blasted on the last page, and now he’s taking the other out, in order to get down to business.

Bullbeast chastises his foul-mouthed accomplice.  Notice the photoshopped building behind December Sun: listen, this comic is about learning and experimentation, so it’s not perfect.  As I look back on this, I see that I would have drawn the building either freehand with brush or with pen.  Oh well…

Ah, wacky slapstick comedy…

Looking back, these pages were a little heavy with the linework.  I’m pretty sure that I did the panels on this page with a Speedball lettering nib, and looking back, I’m really not sure why.  The character of the brush is absolutely missing here…

Oh well, the narrative is still there…

The perspective is a little wonky, but hey, it’s all fun…

John hits the wall and the folks inside get moving.  Good idea, as things are about to get messy.  A note about issue #2 is that I drew this one to be little more than an action issue.  There isn’t much substance to this one, although there is some interesting dialog along the way.

At least, I think this is how it’s supposed to look, if a massive super villain jumped down on to the back of a car, upon which a super human was crouched on the rooftop. I sort of played with this one in my mind for a long time, trying to figure out if this is how it should work. Granted, I never studied physics (I have a general disinterest in anything having to do with science, actually) but my thinking is that the mass and speed of Bullbeast, dropped from a window onto a car, would be enough to launch December Sun into the air at some sort of 45-degree angle. Where he impacts will be revealed in the next strip…

Ground level, and more photoshopping at work here.  An observation is that I’ve been working with black and white in DS for awhile now, and I still haven’t quite found the right balance for things such as grayscale values (see buildings in the far background of this panel.)  I added these, then “grayed” them with the PS halftone tool, and I sortof like this effect (and I’d be curious to try more of this with trees and clouds) and yet, this effect lacks a solid quality to it.  So I don’t know yet.  December Sun has been a learning vehicle in many ways for me.

Anyhow, the next panel is noisy…
